Serving on Presidential EMS Details
Jan-Care is small enough to care, but large enough to be there. Whether the mission is supporting a presidential visit, responding to a national disaster, or simply transporting a loved one to dialysis, Jan-Care stands ready to answer the call with compassionate professionals.
Over the course of Jan-Care's history, our crews have supported EMS details connected with multiple visits by United States presidents. Those assignments require careful coordination among local EMS, law enforcement, fire services, hospitals, federal agencies, and presidential advance teams. During those details, members of the Jan-Care team have had the opportunity to meet and shake hands with four U.S. Presidents.
The photograph above captures one of those moments of service: a Jan-Care ambulance positioned with Air Force One nearby. It is a memorable image, but the importance of the assignment is not the aircraft or the dignitaries. For the crews involved, the mission remains the same as it is on every call: be ready, be professional, and provide excellent patient care whenever needed.
From the World Trade Center response after September 11, Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy, and the Upper Big Branch mining disaster to routine interfacility transportation, Jan-Care's purpose has always been service.
A Tradition of Service
For decades, people have sometimes been puzzled by the level of Jan-Care Ambulance's altruistic activities—the things the organization does for little or no reimbursement, for people both inside and outside our normal coverage areas.
Jan-Care remains proudly private and for-profit. That means we serve our communities without depending on governmental or tax-based assistance. We believe we must continually earn the right to provide care for our patients. Yet that business model alone does not explain the heart and soul of the organization.
The philosophy established and maintained by this family-run company was not adopted from a textbook. It is perhaps best described through the idea of servant leadership: the belief that leadership begins with a desire to serve, and that an organization's success is measured in part by the positive difference it makes in the lives of others.
At the heart of Jan-Care is an innate desire to serve. From that core value comes a conscious commitment to deliver high-quality, compassionate care and to provide leadership within EMS and healthcare. Each day, our goal is simple—to make a positive difference in the lives of the people we touch.
The Moments That Matter Most
Supporting presidents and responding to nationally significant emergencies are distinctive chapters in Jan-Care's history, but they are not the moments by which we ultimately measure ourselves.
While our ambulance crews have shaken the hands of four U.S. Presidents, it gives us even greater pride to see our care bring a smile to the face of a frightened or lonely patient. Whether the call is extraordinary or everyday, Jan-Care's commitment remains the same.
Jan-Care Ambulance is committed to service—and dedicated to excellence.
